History

SEPPmail, based in Neuenhof (Canton of Aargau) and Brunnthal near Munich, has focused on developing pioneering secure email communication solutions and selling them internationally since it was founded in 2001.

The story was triggered by an order from a Zurich law firm to the IT engineer Stefan Klein. The aim of the project was to encrypt electronically exchanged data, therefore achieving a high level of security and data protection. The result was a pioneering email security solution. It allowed the law firm, its clients and other stakeholders to communicate securely. This success, and the conviction that email encryption is becoming significantly more important, prompted Stefan Klein to found his own startup company Onaras.

After an initial dry spell, as the market and clients weren’t yet adequately aware of the issue in the first few years, security-focused companies began to recognize just how important email encryption is. SEPPmail held its own on the resulting growing market and is now one of the most successful providers of this kind of solution on the European market.
