GINA encryption

Thanks to the GINA process, users of the SEPPmail Secure Email Gateway can send encrypted emails to recipients, even if they don’t use encryption software and don’t have a key. The GINA process encrypts using the latest secure public key standards and doesn’t require any software to be installed – on the sender side or the recipient side. Recipients can receive emails using their usual email program and decrypt them by entering a password.

This process is the only one of its kind in the world and has meant SEPPmail has won several technology awards. It facilitates secure and confidential information exchange in the easiest way possible.

How GINA by SEPPmail works

To send an email encrypted using GINA technology, the message must be flagged as confidential in the email program or a specific keyword must be used in the subject line. Whether encrypted communication has already taken place with the recipient in question is irrelevant, because the SEPPmail Secure Email Gateway checks whether a key is already available for the selected recipient. If not, a new key will be generated automatically. The email is then encrypted with this key and transmitted to the recipient.

During initial transmission, a password is sent to the recipient using a separate channel (by text message or over the phone in particular). This password is used to unlock the email decryption key.

GINA Encryption

To this end, the recipient opens the encrypted message’s attachment and enters their password. The email is then automatically decrypted. Recipients are free to reply in encrypted form.
